Basically my only experience with cartography has been working on a project in Columbus, Georgia mapping out an old African American cemetary (dates began mid-1800's). The project involved the actual mapping of the cemetary and indicating where the various burial plots were (they were not always in neat rows) and then creating a database to indicate who was where. Fortunately, they had record book of who was buried and some statistics. I left the project about half-way through because my internship period was over. It was really interesting and I wish that I had been able to see the whole thing through.

hmmm . . . I am curious . . . did the graveyard have markers? If so, it would be really cool to include "rubbings" of the stones. But they probably were not so ornately marked.

The markers (when there were markers) ranged from being a single slab of stone with no markings to quite ornate marble. There were only a couple marble ones and those were of this family that was of a doctor. The newer part of the cemetary was what you would expect with clean cut rows, modern headstones. I was working in the older section where sometimes the only reason you knew it was a plot was that the ground was sunken a bit in a rectangular shape. We mapped these, but obviously there was no way to tell who they were.
I did do a couple rubbings just to help me read the names because that seemed to make the worn ones a bit easier to interpret.

Well, I just finished a 3 year term in African Studies. I got an early release to Comparative and International Study. So, other than looking at a map to see where we are sending students or getting in speakers from...no. Well, my kids sometimes have school projects...:P I did use map quest yesterday, but it couldn't give me directions to send my ex- to hell. Damn technology.

Sounds good. Their actually working on a new map to actually send your X to hell. He/she will follow it just like any other map, however instead of ending up in candyland, hell is what they get. Waypoints is working on a 3D version as we speak.
